The Future is in Us
The word future according to the Oxford Dictionary means, “events that will or are likely to happen in time to come.” The choices that we make in the present and the people we decide to surround ourselves with have a huge impact on what happens to our future. Adam Green once said, “If you surround yourself with love and the right people anything is possible.”
I try to surround myself with people who will build me up not break me down, and the choices I make today will affect tomorrow. My biggest goal in life is to make a difference in my community. I have played sports my whole life and I have learned every coach has a game plan, and I have one to reach my goal. To make a difference in my community I have to look for the changes that need to be made, listen to the people whose voices are not heard, and have an open heart to all people.
I want to help a community I am a part of, I want to help people who like me struggle with dyslexia. Dyslexia is something, not many people are aware of or don’t understand. According to the Yale Center of Dyslexia and Creativity, 20 percent of the population has dyslexia, and only one out of every ten of those people is diagnosed. When children can be diagnosed, they have the ability to get the help and support they need. Dyslexia does not mean a child cannot learn and it doesn't mean they aren’t smart. Chief executive.net reported that twenty-five percent of CEOs are dyslexic. This is proof that just because a child has dyslexia does not mean they cannot succeed in life, having dyslexia means your mind functions differently. The University of Cambridge researched and formed their belief that having dyslexia enhances your ability in certain areas such as creativity, discovery, and invention. If schools can help students with dyslexia reach their full potential, we can bring new ideas to the table.
I want to help educate people on what dyslexia is and how it affects people my idea is that by doing this I can help others be diagnosed. My cousin also has dyslexia he is a smart student but as a child, he struggled with dyslexia, and when he found help and learned how to accommodate his dyslexia. he excelled in school. I want to help kids just like us, who just need a helping hand. If I can help one kid, the way that people helped me, I would feel I reached my dream.
If I can reach my dream of helping people, I believe it will help so many other kids to create their own dreams. So, in the words of Bo Jackson “Set your goals high and don't stop till you get there”. Hopefully, the next time you read something written by me I will have reached my goal, but I’ll never stop reaching to go higher.
