Helping is a Learning Experience
October, 26 2023, was the day that my life changed. I stood there in the hospital for hours waiting for the news that a baby was born. Was it a boy or a girl? I had no idea. Finally after five hours of waiting, my dad came out with a smile on his face, telling me the baby was finally here. A smile spread across my face, and I immediately ran to the room where my stepmom had given birth to my baby sibling. I opened the door to see the baby in her arms. I walked over quietly, and I had finally seen the beautiful girl in her arms. I knew my life had changed for the better.
Over the time I’ve learned how much it takes to take care of a baby; it’s not the easiest thing in life. So I decided to start helping out my dad and stepmom by doing chores when they didn’t ask me, like I would do the dishes, empty out the dishwasher or even doing the handwashes. I’d also make sure that the house was nice and tidy so they wouldn’t have to worry about that either. Babysitting was also another task I would do for them, when they would ask me I wouldn’t even put up a fight with them because of how much I love my baby sister. Sometimes they wouldn’t even have to ask me, I would just jump in and do it. When I''m babysitting it''s amazing to see how a baby''s mind works, seeing how they just babble and play with their toys. But it''s also different being a big sister for the first time; I learned things I’ve never known. Regardless of how I’m needed, I just want to be there for my family.
I truly enjoy spending time with my baby sister. I would play blocks with her, read to her, and just walk around with her and talk to her. I love when she falls asleep on my chest. Not only am I spending time with someone I love, but I feel fulfilled knowing that I’m helping both my parents and my sister.
My baby sister is so young ,and I know I need to be a role model for her. I want her to witness my helpfulness and happiness, understand it, and start to do it on her own when she is old enough. I want to watch her grow up and be the best person she can be.
When you''re an old soul like myself, you know that this world is in need of a lot of help. It may seem small to others when I help my family by cleaning and babysitting but to my family it means the world. I hope that this experience will help me with my own children one day. And by the time I want children, my sister will be as old as I am now, so she will be able to know what to do when it comes to that day.
