We Pave Our Own Paths
Goals. We all have them, but sometimes fail to realize how important they really are. Setting goals throughout life will help develop responsibility and the initiative to get things done. Both traits are very valuable, but even more so as a teenager. As an early teen, I am just beginning to develop as a person. It is imperative to set goals at this stage of life because they instill virtuous and quality traits that are beneficial for adulthood.
As an early teen, I have set three goals. My first is to spend more time with the people I care about. I have established this goal because I believe that devoting more time to be around significant people in my life will lead to the most happiness. My second goal is to achieve a 3.5 to 4.0 GPA in high school, preferably leaning towards the latter. I set this objective because I want to challenge myself and have a good chance at getting into a desirable college. My third and final goal is to participate in community service events. I set this goal because I want to help others and form an unselfish way of life.
With goals come plans to complete them. I will fulfill my first goal by taking some of my time each day to be around those I care for. I am going to complete my second goal by focusing in class and not procrastinating. I have had trouble with delaying my work in the past but am determined to stop the habit. I am going to finish my last goal by attending service events as often as I can.
My life experiences have taught me that problems and roadblocks naturally accompany commitment. While working on my first goal, I might face the issue of growing tired of my friends and family. I can prevent this by focusing on the positive aspects of spending time with them. With my second goal, I may face frustration over my performance. This can be avoided by not dwelling on where I did poorly and focusing on improving my performance. Amidst my third goal comes the issue of unwillingness and laziness. I will bypass this roadblock by thinking of those who are not as fortunate, to inspire me to attend service events.
I am excited to complete these goals and believe that they are a vital part of my development. I believe that fulfilling my goals is the first step to paving the path to my future. Dottie Yeck thought that “being good and doing good will result in having fun and being happy.” I support her idea because the journey of making and finishing your goals is the first part of being happy.
The three goals I have established will initiate the momentum of my future. They will lead to so many new possibilities, new achievements, and hopefully a long, happy life.
