Stress Time Stories
The key to having fun is being able to be a kid. The library is the best way to be one. I am a twelve year old and one of my favorite things to do is go to the kid’s section and read the new picture books. One of the best messaged books I have read and now own is Yay, You! Moving Out, Moving Up, Moving On by: Sandra Boynton. This book talks about a bear figure who has accomplished a great feat and now he needs something to do. I read this book often, and sometimes, I know exactly how Boynton’s characters feel. Picture books give great advice that you never understand until you’re older. The message in this book is not the golden rule or eat your vegetables. It is much more advanced than that. The message is: try anything and everything until you find something that’s right for you.
A fantastic page in the story says, “There are so many choices. The world is immense. Take a good look around and decide what makes sense.” This trial and error method can not be done without support from your friends and family. I am in a high school level math class: Algebra. This class is hard. There were several sessions of pure anger at myself for not knowing how to do it. My advisor, Mrs. Hoy, and I have had lunchtime help sessions almost everyday on math. Without her I would be failing this course. When I am stressed during class there is always one of my friends who is giving me a reassuring look or mouthing, “It’s going to be okay.” And nobody can make me laugh like my family can, especially when I’m sad or angry.
Change is one of the hardest things in life, but it can be one of the easiest if you treat it the right way. One of the hardest changes is moving up in this world. Whether it be to higher level class or just going to a bigger school. The switch from elementary school to middle school was very difficult. There were more teachers, more assignments, and less time to do everything. With a growing schedule it is hard to make time for yourself, but having this time is very important. It could be reading a good book; watching Netflix; or, most importantly, sleeping. There may be days where one of these blissful activities can not occur and that’s when you need a secret weapon. Sadly, this weapon is not a time machine. It is a book. I’m not saying a 500 word essay like this one. It’s a picture book. It takes so little time to read, there are minimal words, and it relaxes us. This brings us back to being a kid. Kids can forget about all problems in this world when they are reading. This is a feeling that all people should experience. So, take a step back, away from reality, and be a kid again.
