Thomas Flint - Grade 10, Brookville High School
At fifteen I have been through a lot in the past year. Now some people haven’t gone through what I have so I know if I’ve made it this far so can anyone else. About a year ago my mom was admitted to the hospital. After a month the Leukemia had gotten the best of my mom and sadly she passed away. I believe the only way I have survived for this long is I have stayed positive. Throughout the past year I really haven’t grieved except for the first few months she was gone.
I strongly believe in having a work ethic. If you have a work ethic you can accomplish anything. Now work ethic means a few things like how hard you work, attitude, and how hard you push yourself. How well you do in school depends on your attitude and how hard you work. If you’re willing to put in the effort your outcome will be good. You need to set goals for yourself so you know what needs to get done. If you don’t have a work ethic I don’t believe you make it very far in life.
Another way to make sure you succeed is to not get in trouble. Now this could mean a lot of different things, like the people you hang around or what you do on your own time. If you were to get into trouble and the police could be involved and colleges can see that. Staying out of trouble is one of the easiest things you can do to have a successful teen life.
As a teen you don’t have many responsibilities, but the ones you have are very important. You have to think about what career you want and what college you want to attend. The main thing to do is to plan ahead and make sure you know what you want to do.
I wasn’t dealt the best hand in life but I have made the best of it. I know if you stay positive through the bad times in your life it always gets better. A lot of people feel like giving up I know I have, but the thing is you can’t because the rest of your life depends on what you do now. I know a lot of kids wish they could grow up, but I guarantee when they do they’ll look back on their teen years and wish they could go back. The only way to be successful in your teen years are staying positive and developing a work ethic.
