The Foundation for my life
Consider the foundation for one’s life. Just as the foundation of a house is strong, so must be the foundation for a person to have a successful life. From day one, I had a solid foundation. My parents and extended family are very supportive of all my endeavors. Like it is important for a structure to have a solid base, it is crucial for a child to have a secure and loving family environment. From the beginning, I naturally adopted my parents’ ways and values. They took me to church and taught me to trust God and to look to Him for guidance.
In a house, the foundation is built first, just like I first had the foundation of my parents, sister, and extended family. Then, the walls of the house are built. For me, the walls are my neighbors, coaches, and teachers. My parents have taught me everything from using simple manners to accepting people who are different from me. They have helped shape my character and shown me that perseverance and hard work are necessary in everything you do. My parents and my sister were always with me from day one, playing pretend with me, teaching me, or just spending time with me. During this stage in my life, I was adopting their habits and beginning to shape the first level of my personality.
As an adolescent, my family, coaches, and teachers continue to be a huge part of forming who I am and will become. As I look at my peers, I choose my friends and role models. I’m learning what types of people I want to surround me. The influential people in my life have taught me character and perseverance, as well as resilience. I’ve faced some challenges and struggles, but I understand a positive attitude will help you recover from disappointments. My faith has shown me to strive to emulate Jesus.
As I travel into adulthood, I will continue facing challenging times with the love and care of my foundation and walls. I know I can rely on them. I see life like the weather, always changing. In life, like the weather, there are storms and cloudy times when the sun does not shine. There are bright times when the sun shines. Occasionally, there are severe storms such as hurricanes and tornadoes that tear a gaping hole that needs repaired. I strive to make my life like a high rise building because I already have a strong base to stand through the storms. I will work to keep my base firm. Knowing that I have a strong base allows me to continue building my life. When the building needs some small repairs, then scaffolding is put on the building. This is parallel to my life because, when I need help in my life, I know I have trustworthy people around in times of need.
I see life as a journey that never ends and a building that is always under construction.
