Dottie Yeck Essay
There I was, peering through the window in grade school, wondering to myself what it would be like to me when I am older. Will it be hard? Will I be successful? Now here I am, a freshman in highschool, and to answer my question, yes, it is hard. Am I successful? No, not yet, but I will be, because I have a plan. This plan is going to help me get through these harsh years of highschool, to not only survive, but to thrive.
First things first, my plan consists of how to overcome roadblocks and stay in a healthy mindset throughout my teen years. My main plan is simply to get good grades throughout these few years, but also be happy and healthy. Let’s get right into the first roadblock, and probably one of the most important ones, procrastination. Procrastination is the action of delaying or postponing something, which for me is homework. I used to struggle so much with homework, but I have a plan for this. Everyday I make a list of all my homework and things to do, and as I get them done, I cross them off. That helps me stay organized, and to stop my procrastination I do my homework right when I get home, no matter what it gets done. All in all, that’s how simply I overcome procrastination. That is pretty much the only roadblock for getting school work done. So the first part of my plan was to really focus on school and get good grades. Now the second part of my plan is to be more social, friends are very important throughout teen years. They help with your social health, and mental health in general. I used to not have many friends because of one thing that is actually very common for teenagers to have, anxiety. Anxiety is a feeling of worry or nervousness that typically occurs because of an event. For me, this event is school. I always feared that people wouldn’t like me, and I would start to panic. To stop these panic attacks, I like to listen to music. For me, calming music helps. Songs that are smooth and quiet. Then I simply just breath in, and out slowly. After about five minutes, I am completely fine. I now am a lot better than I used to be because of this part of my plan. I now have many good friends that I stay social with at school. They help me with so many problems and allow me to just have fun like I wanted. These two parts of my plan allow me to survive and thrive in highschool.
To sum it up, my plan is very simple: do good in school and have fun while I do so. It may be simple, but it’s still very effective for me. I’m only in my first year of highschool but I’m already doing well, and I believe just like I hoped, that I will not just survive, but thrive.
