Turning Things Around
The Coronavirus Pandemic affected my life in many different ways. I made the best of it and came out a happier person.
At first, I wasn’t doing very well mentally. I was very extremely isolated and felt like I couldn’t reach out to my friends. My trips to Chicago and Charleston, South Carolina were cancelled and my track season, which I was super excited for, ended early. I wasn’t doing very well with online school and I simply had nothing to do. I’d say this spring was one of the hardest times I’ve endured, but I made it work.
After a while, I picked myself up and got motivated. My parents bought me a basketball hoop, so I played outside almost every single day. I also started piano lessons. I had always wanted to play piano, but I’d always thought I didn’t have the time. I have a lot of background in music from band class, so the piano came pretty easy to me, but it was challenging. The school’s varsity basketball coach was giving us challenges, so I always participated in those. Throughout the summer, I made 10,000 shots and have greatly improved at the piano. Those two things alone have made me so much happier.
I also made so many new friends through old friends and have rode my bike so much throughout the summer. Now, I have a lot of supportive people to talk to when I’m having my worst days. I can’t even count how many times I’ve rode my bike to a friends house to play basketball or get a slushie at Speedway. I’d started to make good out of the bad.
Overall, I’ve become a very optimistic person during the Coronavirus Pandemic. I have learned to make good things come out of bad situations. Great opportunities have come out of the quarantine and I am very thankful for that.
