Follow your Dreams
Khalil Gibran once said, “Trust in dreams, for in them is the gate to eternity.” What does this mean? It means that your dreams will come true later in your life because now, they are hidden. They will come true. . . trust me. Even if it takes four years to come true, your dreams are going to happen, they are just at the gate to eternity.
One of my dreams, since I started playing the violin, was to be in the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Strings. When I was finally old enough to audition for it, I asked my violin teacher what I should play. She gave me the piece I should do, so I started to practice the next day for a fresh start. I would practice until my fingers and muscles hurt. On the day of the audition, most of the kids there weren’t familiar to me, but that didn’t stop me! At the audition, I had to play a solo, a scale, and a sight reading piece. Before I knew it, I was already over with the audition. Two months later, I got an email with the results. I got in! I knew all that practice was worth it.
Before the audition, I felt scared because I thought I was going to embarrass myself. I was also nervous and frightened. When I went to the room for the audition, I was focused and nervous. Afterward, I was happy and proud of myself. I got nice comments from the adjudicator. My cheerful appearance helped me because it got me through a stressful time. If I was never positive about the audition, I would have had to face a tough time. I realized that determination and motivation play more important roles in my life than I thought. Being strong and brave helped me during a rough time in my life.
We don’t always get what we want in our life most of the time, and I must admit, it can be frustrating and stressful. Even if you don’t get something that you have worked on for years, just remember you can always improve! If someone, like a coach, or a conductor, gave you a couple of tips, try them, because they told you those tips to help you get better. Always think positive and work hard! Help your friends and family achieve their goals also. Don’t be upset if your dream doesn’t come true, be proud of yourself for trying!
