How to Keep a Positive Attitude in Situations
In your life, you encounter tragedy and it’s really hard to get through, but you can always get through it if you have a positive attitude. I learned this from a tough experience in my life.
As I was growing up, my mother had a drinking problem. I didn’t really notice it because I was 7. My brother and I would find vodka bottles around the house. I didn’t know what it was, but my brother did because he’s older than me. He talked to my dad about it, but that just led to arguing. My mother would drink because she had extreme back pain and that was the only thing that would take the pain away.
She would drink like 2 or 3 bottles of vodka everyday and it was slowly but surely killing her because her liver couldn’t take it. She was getting sick and sometimes the paramedics would come and have to take her to the hospital. It was a really hard time in the family, and as all this was happening we all knew she was dying a little. My mom was taken into the hospital, and the doctors said it didn’t look good, so she got transferred to another hospital. She was in there for a good 6 or 7 months, and I had to persevere through the pain.
Then on August 3rd 2016, my mother died of liver failure. I was at my friend Paxton’s house when I looked on Instagram and I saw my brother’s girlfriend posted a pic of my mom and said R.I.P. and it was like 3:00 in the morning. I cried for a good hour and a half. I posted about it on Instagram and everyone was showing remorse. We went to the funeral a couple weeks later, and I spoke at her funeral because I felt like I had to because I didn’t visit her a lot. I was 11, and last August marked 2 years she has been gone. I was sad at first, but then I looked at the bright side, which was she was in a better place and wasn’t having any pain anymore and that made people around me happy because they saw the bright side, too. My mother was the best mom I could ever ask for, and I miss her everyday.
The lesson I learned about the power of positive attitude is if you have a positive attitude it could change your point of view a lot about basically everything because you look at all the positives and not the negatives. A positive attitude can influence certain people or a situation by making people look at a situation differently and not look at the negatives and at the positives and hopefully put them in a different mood.
