Teen Years: My Expectations
Dottie Yeck lived by this philosophy, “Being good and doing good will result in having fun and being happy.” In my teen years, I hope to live by these iconic words as well. Many people consider their teen years the best years of their life. Are they correct? I won’t have to wait long for the answer. I prefer to think about it positively. But who knows what the future holds?
I expect my teen years to be challenging, but still fun. I have many, many goals for these upcoming years. Here are a few of my main goals: I would like to make many friends that will support me throughout my life and career and help me be my best. I would also like to find a terrific high school that will help prepare me for college and do my best to get all A’s in whichever school I may choose. This will help me be able to choose which job I want to have when I grow up and use my gifts to better the world. Finally, I want to continue to practice tennis and golf, the sports I enjoy, so I can stay in good shape, get activity, and find useful opportunities and scholarships through sports that I enjoy.
Now, you can’t make goals without expecting roadblocks along the way. When they appear, you must keep a positive attitude. Roadblocks that could get in the way of my goals could be getting injured and not being able to practice sports, having trouble being myself in front of others, or getting a late assignment in school. The good thing about roadblocks, though, is that they provide great opportunities to improve. To overcome roadblocks, I could rest until my injury heals, learn to be relaxed in front of others, and focus on turning in assignments on time. I plan to just be myself, do my best, and stay optimistic to complete my goals.
A sign displayed in my school says, “Dream, Believe, Achieve.” I think that this means that if you believe in yourself and stay optimistic, you can achieve anything you can dream of. I think of my goals positively and am determined to complete them. I know life will not be perfect, but I know that whatever happens, I will get through it and continue to thrive throughout my teen years. My Grandfather used to say, “Whether you think you can or you think can’t, you’re probably right.” If you have confidence (but not too much), a positive attitude, and people in your life that will help support you, nothing is impossible.
Overall, if I continue to improve, always do my best, plan to succeed, and follow Dottie Yeck’s philosophy, I will have a happy life, be able to pursue my dreams, and use my talents in the way I have been called to use them. Remember, there is no point in living without challenges and there is no success without failure.
